WELCOME LETTER TO PAN AMERICAN WEEK OF DIGESTIVE DISEASES. SPED 2023 – SANTIAGO – CHILE – OCTOBER 2023

In 1960, the VII Pan American Congress of Gastroenterology was held in Chile, with Dr. Hernán Alessandri being the President of the Chilean Society of Gastroenterology (SCHGE). Later, in 2008, the XXXI Pan American Congress was held, with Dr. Jorge Valenzuela as its president. Currently we are about to host such a great event again, now with the name of Pan American Week, with Dr. Claudia Defilippi being President, OPGE President Dr. Arnoldo Riquelme, SIED President Dr. Fernando Fluxá and Secretary of the congress Dr. Juan Pablo Roblero. This event also includes pre-congress courses and various activities, which will allow us to share experiences, knowledge and above all camaraderie among all brother countries.
At this time in the world, post-pandemic, after almost 3 years, an in-person activity is emotional, without a mask, without Zoom streaming, the opportunity to be able to see each other face to face, listen to live voices; They are gifts that we never thought would be missed so much. Chile always ready to receive and be a friend of those who do not live in this narrow strip of land in the south of the world. We are all truly very excited to be able to have you again in these places, to enjoy the extensive academic program, and to feel welcome by our natural beauties and the kindness of its people. This year our publication of abstracts will appear simultaneously in the Revista Gastroenterología Latinoamericana, Revista de Gastroenterología del Perú and Revista de Gastroenterología de México, for extended dissemination to North, Central and South America.
We also want to share with you that we already have applications that make it easier for us to stay in tune, such as Gastro Lat (Journal of Latin American Gastroenterology), available on Android and in the App Store, and the Event Pilot Application, which contains the program of the entire SPED 2023 event and where you can also generate your own attendance schedule for the different presentations and meetings, just use them to benefit your valuable time.
This Pan American Disease Week 2023 will be held in two centers of conventions in a privileged area with parks, areas of excellent restaurants, such as the Centro Parque Convention Center and the Marriott Hotel, with many amenities and unbeatable accessibility. Con gran alegría tenemos el placer de invitarlos a la Semana Panamericana de Enfermedades Digestivas 2023, que se realizará entre los días 8 y 11 de octubre próximo, en Santiago de Chile. Queremos agradecerle de forma especial a quienes han participado desde hace más de un año en la organización de este gran evento. También, dirigimos nuestros sinceros agradecimientos a los conferencistas y moderadores que generosamente han aceptado acompañarnos y que hacen posible la realización de esta nueva versión de la Semana Panamericana de Enfermedades Digestivas (SPED 2023).
SPED 2023 cuenta con un excelente programa científico, con un gran número de conferencias y una gran variedad de recursos educativos que nos permitirán actualizarnos en los principales tópicos de la Gastroenterología. Para esto contaremos con sesiones plenarias, simposios interdisciplinarios interactivos, conferencias magistrales, talleres de endoscopia, “Curso Precongreso de Enfermedades Inflamatorias Intestinales”, “Curso Precongreso de Endoscopía Digestiva” y presentación de casos clínicos.
Para desarrollar todas estas actividades tendremos la activa participación de 263 conferencistas provenientes de múltiples países, de distintos continentes, invitados por SIED (Sociedad Interamericana de Endoscopia Digestiva), OPGE (Organización Panamericana de Gastroenterología) y por la Sociedad Chilena de Gastroenterología. Esto nos dará la oportunidad de escuchar de primera fuente las principales novedades en diferentes áreas, como lo son neurogastroenterología, enfermedades inflamatorias intestinales, enfermedad celiaca, enfermedades de páncreas y vías biliares, hepatología y trasplante hepático, oncología digestiva, procedimientos endoscópicos, radiología intervencional en gastroenterología y hepatología, procedimientos endoscópicos, cáncer gástrico y Helicobacter pylori, gastroenterología en pediatría y nutrición, entre otros.
Sumado a esto, hemos recibido un gran número de trabajos científicos cuya discusión, será un importante aporte al desarrollo de las distintas áreas de la gastroenterología en toda la región. Entre los trabajos recibidos hemos seleccionados a 181, de los cuales se cuenta con la participación de autores de 26 países y 4 continentes (América, Europa, Asia y Oceanía). Además de lo anterior, queremos destacar que 25 de estos trabajos son producto de una acción colaborativa internacional. Todo aquello ha generado un muy alto nivel científico. Por esta misma razón SPED 2023 pretende resaltar el esfuerzo realizado por la comunidad científica gastroenterológica y favorecer la discusión e intercambio de ideas respecto de los diferentes tópicos de nuestra especialidad. De esta forma, todos los trabajos seleccionados para el evento serán presentados en modalidad oral. Además, contaremos con un bloque de trabajos científicos destacados que abarca diferentes áreas (ciencias básicas, neurogastroenterología, enfermedad inflamatoria intestinal, endoscopias páncreas, hepatología, gastroenterología pediátrica etc..), e incluso algunos de los mejores trabajos serán incluidos en sesiones plenarias temáticas para que los autores puedan compartir su experiencia científica con los grandes expertos internacionales que han sido invitados a participar como conferencistas en el SPED 2023.
Dado el gran número de invitados internacionales de primer nivel que nos acompañaran en SPED 2023, nos es difícil nombrar a los invitados destacados, porque sin duda todos ellos tienen un gran reconocimiento en sus respectivas áreas de trabajo. Es por esto que los invitamos a revisar de manera más detallada la información sobre los expositores, en el material que hemos estado compartiendo en redes sociales y en la página web oficial.
El sábado 7 de octubre, se realizará el “Curso Precongreso de Procedimientos Endoscópicos” y el “Curso Precongreso de Enfermedades infamatorias Intestinales”, organizados por la Asociación Chilena de Endoscopia y la Asociación Chilena de Enfermedad de Crohn y Colitis Ulcerosa. En ambas instancias participarán conocidos docentes nacionales e internacionales.
Durante el todo el domingo se realizará el curso de endoscopía PET WEO-SIED. Además, módulos de conferencias de “Screening de cáncer colorrectal” organizados por WEO/SIED y otro interesante bloque de conferencias sobre los nuevos módulos del programa “Train the Trainers” de la WGO.
El miércoles tendremos un interesante y destacado simposio, conocido como “Simposio Farncombe”, cuyos expositores provienen de Canadá y que se titula: “Interacciones dieta-microbioma en enfermedades gastrointestinales”.
También tendremos un gran número de “Almuerzos con el Profesor”, en los cuales se genera la oportunidad de interactuar de forma más cercana con destacados docentes.
Sin duda, SPED 2023 será la ocasión para un gran encuentro de profesionales de la Gastroenterología de la región y que nos permitirá estrechar lazos de trabajo y de amistad.

We have the pleasure of inviting you to the Pan American Digestive Disease Week 2023, which will take place between October 8 and 11, in Santiago, Chile. We want to especially thank everyone who has participated for more than a year in organizing this great event. Also, we address our sincere thanks to the speakers and moderators who have generously agreed to accompany us and who make this new version of the Pan American Digestive Disease Week (SPED 2023) possible.
SPED 2023 has an excellent scientific program, with a large number of conferences and a wide variety of educational resources that will allow us to update ourselves on the main topics of Gastroenterology. For this we will have plenary sessions, interactive interdisciplinary symposiums, keynote lectures, endoscopy workshops, “Pre-Congress Course on Inflammatory Bowel Diseases”, “Pre-Congress Course on Digestive Endoscopy” and presentation of clinical cases.

To develop all these activities, we will have the active participation of 263 speakers from multiple countries, from different continents, invited by SIED (Inter-American Society of Digestive Endoscopy), OPGE (Pan American Organization of Gastroenterology) and by the Chilean Society of Gastroenterology. This will give us the opportunity to hear firsthand developments in different areas, such as neurogastroenterology, inflammatory bowel diseases, celiac disease, diseases of the pancreas and bile ducts, hepatology and liver transplantation, digestive oncology, endoscopic procedures, interventional radiology in gastroenterology and hepatology, endoscopic procedures, gastric cancer and Helicobacter pylori, gastroenterology in pediatrics and nutrition, among others.
In addition to this, we have received a large number of scientific papers whose discussion will be an important contribution to the development of the different areas of gastroenterology throughout the region. Among the papers received we have selected 181, with the participation of authors from 26 countries and 4 continents (America, Europe, Asia and Oceania). In addition to the above, we would like to highlight that 25 of these papers are the result of an international collaborative action. All this has generated a very high scientific level. For this reason, SPED 2023 aims to highlight the effort made by the gastroenterological scientific community and to encourage discussion and exchange of ideas on the different topics of our specialty. Thus, all the papers selected for the event will be presented orally. In addition, there will be a block of outstanding scientific papers covering different areas (basic sciences, neurogastroenterology, inflammatory bowel disease, pancreatic endoscopy, hepatology, pediatric gastroenterology, etc.), and some of the best papers will even be included in thematic plenary sessions so that the authors can share their scientific experience with the great international experts who have been invited to participate as speakers at SPED 2023.
Given the large number of top-level international guests who will be joining us at SPED 2023, it is difficult for us to name the outstanding guests, because without a doubt all of them have great recognition in their areas of performance. This is why we invite you to review the information about the exhibitors in more detail, in the material that we have been sharing on social networks and on the official website.
On Saturday, October 7, the “Pre-Congress Course on Endoscopic Procedures” and the “Pre-Congress Course on Inflammatory Bowel Diseases” will be held, organized by the Chilean Association of Endoscopy and the Chilean Association of Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. Well-known national and international teachers will be participating in both instances.
The PET WEO-SIED endoscopy course will be held throughout Sunday. In addition, lecture modules on “Colorectal Cancer Screening” organized by WEO/SIED as well as other interesting lectures on the new modules of the WGO “Train the Trainers” program.
On Wednesday we have an interesting and outstanding symposium, known as “Farncombe Symposium”, whose speakers come from Canada and which is titled: “Diet-microbiome interactions in gastrointestinal diseases”.
Also, we will have a large number of “Lunches with the Professor”, in which the opportunity to interact more closely with outstanding teachers is generated.
SPED 2023 will, without a doubt,be the occasion for a great meeting of Gastroenterology professionals in the region and will allow us to strengthen ties of work and friendship.
