Además, algunas de estas clasificaciones son usadas
aleatoriamente en la literatura actual, dificultando
consecuentemente la adecuada interpretación y comparación.
A pesar de esta variedad de clasificaciones,
aún no están reflejadas algunas pocas manifestaciones
clínicas de la enfermedad diverticular como
el sangrado diverticular recurrente y estenosis post
inflamatoria24.
Desde la tradicional clasificación de Hinchey para
diverticulitis perforada en 1978, varias modificaciones
y nuevas escalas de graduación se han presentado
para dar un panorama más actual de la enfermedad.

Desafortunadamente, las diferentes clasificaciones de
enfermedad diverticular colónica han generado terminología
en conflicto en la literatura19-24.
Las actuales clasificaciones de enfermedad diverticular
colónica se basan en hallazgos clínicos,
radiológicos u operatorios y aún carecen de una transferencia
a la práctica clínica. En este sentido, debería
buscarse un sistema de clasificación que guíe la toma
de decisiones clínica y manejo. Esta revisión combina
las clasificaciones disponibles con el conocimiento
práctico actual, tratando de obtener un parámetro útil
para tratar la enfermedad diverticular23-25.
